I am making some newborn fitted nappies and am just wondering if I have enough layers.
It is a balance between making them too bulky and slow to dry and not absorbent enough.
Currently I am doing
Nappy: 2 layers of spotlight flannelette (reasonably thin but only cost $1/m) and 1 layer of GB bamboo velour
Snap in soaker: 4 layers of flannelette with suede cloth stay dry layer.
I am planning on having the bamboo velour closest to baby I wasn't going to put a stay dry layer on the main nappy, it this OK and do stains wash out of the velour OK?
Enough layers of Absorbency?

Actually it is cotton velour.
Any advice appreciated.

Are you making fitted insides or are they going to be folded? I had trifolded double layer bamboo and hemp inserts which were fine during the day but needed a fitted and boosted nappy over night.

Re: Enough layers of Absorbency?
None of those are terribly absorbant fabrics, I would want some hemp or bamboo in there

I'm not sure what you mean. I am making fitted nappies (three layers of fabric) with a snap in booster (4 layers) and then a waterproof cover over the whole lot.Kaz wrote:Are you making fitted insides or are they going to be folded?
Do you mean is the booster a trifold? then no it's not.
Have been going through my stash and found some scraps of hemp fleece which I can add to the boosters.

Re: Enough layers of Absorbency?
I've made snap-in trifold rectangles or trifold long strips as boosters, which give the extra layers but fold out to dry.
Definitely put in the hemp but you may still need to boost them more, always hard to tell how much a little one is going to wet.
