Olearia yarnage

Postby growingclothie » Thu Jul 29, 2010 1:20 pm

Just wanting to know how much yardage Olearia takes while I'm planning the use of my yarns. Ravelry gives a range but I can't get more details without buying it as to how much the variation i want to do uses... so how much (Spotlight moda vera 8ply) would I need for a size1 with sleeves and no body, kind of bolero style

I did an 18 month for Nina in Bendigo luxury and it took just over a 200gram ball not sure what the yardage is, but 2 balls of bendigo got the shrug and full cardy plus left overs :D

Oh I did record the yardage 550.6 yards that was for the full cardy the shrug was 227.2 yards with short sleeves :)

I found the yardage of the moda vera 8ply was very short compared to what I'm used to, so would definitely err on the side of caution - eg the bendigo is 200m/100g, our 8ply yarn is 225m/100g, TWC is 190m/100g, and moda vera 8ply merino, and also the patons merino/etc is only 160m/100g.

Hmmm, if I do it in two colours (probably shrug in one colour and striped sleeves) I have 4balls, but I'm thinking I might need to add a third colour in, not too sure where or how it will look though

Size V1 V2 Shrug
1 475 395 230
1.5 505 415 250
2 530 440 275
3 560 470 295
4 585 485 310
5 620 530 330
6 650 560 350
7 680 585 365
8 705 615 420

The above is from the pattern, and is the yarn required in metres, (of course every knitter is different)

V1 is long and ruched all over, V2 with ruching in the bodice and the shrug with ruching. These all have long sleeves (apart from the shrug).

These are only estimates, as my size 3 shrug used 250metres of 8ply bwm cotton.

I am knitting a Kalina sized (3ish months) Olearia cardy with long sleeves and ss bottom, in Bendigo cotton 8ply, and so far I have knit the yoke and about half of the body and have used 71grams (aprox 188yards) so far :)
The gathering bit takes up lots of wool :)
