Cloth Wipes

Post by Duvessa85 » Fri Aug 31, 2012 10:02 pm

Hi everyone

I'm thinking of making some cloth wipes from old penne (sp?) velvet and old towels.

I'd be using the velvet on one side and the towel on the other.

Do you think this will work or would I be better off getting some minky or the like instead of using the velvet?

Thanks in advance for any advice :D

Do you want a smooth side? otherwise you could just use the toweling.
The velvet probably wouldn't be absorbent but neither is minky, I know some people use minky but I prefer something absorbent. Mine are made out of flannelette and some of them have absorbent cotton velvet on one side.

I dont think velvet would be a good "cleaner" ??
My favourite was either plain flannelette, or flannelette/cotton velour. I found minky was a bit smear-y and not a great cleaner.

Agre with the others - I made flanette and velour wipes they are wonderful. If you want to use old towels just edge them about the size of a flannel, thats what most people used to do back in the day before wipes and disposables came about. My nana used to crochet an edge on them. Otherwise I would use flannel one side and the towel the other.

Thank you so much. I have some flannel so I'll use that and make the velvet into blankets :D
