Any ideas for RNW in a small town?

Post by figi9 » Sat Mar 01, 2008 9:54 pm

I plan on doing some similar promotion to last year, but would like something different.

Last year:
Displays in Greymouth library, plunket rooms and hospital plus Hokitika library.

A nappicino with demo kit and hirekit on display. Pamphlets from Wham;s everywhere. (It was in a cafe as a neutral place for people to meet. but mainly my friends showed up to this.... and Megan off here :D

In Nelson they had a trailer with rubbish bags stacked up to show a years worth of rubbish made from disposables. I'm really keen to do this, but not sure exactly where to display it.

The local free paper had 3 articles. One on RNW, one one the displays with a photo and one of the nappicino with a photo.

WHAT ELSE COULD WE DO DOWN HERE????????????
Not much chance of an expo or having whams sell their products.

I'd like to get the MCN word out to as many people as possible, not just my friends and the same people I've given demo's to over the last year and half. (small town -the people with babies all seem to go to the same things)
Hirekits avaliable. 3 x NB/SM and a Med/Lrg. Especially on the West Coast or South Island fimale99@hotmail.com

I'd really like to be involved this year too. We have started going to playcentre here, so perhaps I could put something up there? I haven't given it much thought. I think you did a great job last year, Fi!

Great idea Megan. Any other public places too. Library?

I just read on one of the RNW threads about a sewing tutorial. Thought instantly of you. Would you be interested in taking a sewing tutorial for nappies if there is enough interest? Will ask around, especailly at the next home birth group meeting. Might be some interested there.

One idea I had was to contact childcare centres and offer to demo how easy cloth in Childcare is... so your targetting more than parents... Either do a talk OR a info booklet... maybe get some photos taken at an out of town cloth friendly daycare

I'm happy to do a sewing tutorial if we can do it at your place, just I'm not sure how many people would make the journey up here for it  .

Ohh what a great idea. I don't think any are cloth friendly here, but i don't go to any so don't actually know.

Thanks for the idea. I'll look into this. Could even give the demo, when a lot of parents might be picking up their kids.

Totally happy to have it here. Did you actually come inside when you visited? It's quite small, espcailly if everyone brings a sewing machine. But can work around that. Set another table up in the lounge or something. OR my friend has a large space. if she hasn't soldher house by then she'd probably be happy to have it there too.

I'll see if there are any nibbles of interest out there.

I wonder if the high school or polytech has facilities we can use? I could check that out if you think that's a viable option.

Oh yeah, I'm probably getting a bit ahead of myself!
Last night in bed I was imagining making an order at Greenbeans for metres of PUL and microfleece, and cutting out dozens of nappies first to save time on the day  .

I will just copy that and put it on the RNW page of the website.
