Right, well after talking to DH and a horrid couple of days here, I'm pulling out of involvement with this. Sorry guys, I really thought I could do it but I need to start exercising my ability to say no. I have been offered some part time work and we need the money so that takes preference I'm afraid. Hope my ramblings have been of some use :) Good luck, hope you have fun and get lots of people converted.

Well, I was going to ring a few places today about venue hire costs. Can still do so, but if it's just me and Bex again - do we really want to do it at all?

- There's a church hall next to our kindy I was going to inquire about - nice and open to the car park and road.
- Also Plunket rooms (hey, no harm in asking :) ).
- Thought about the church hall that the Dinsdale Plunket uses rooms at - but it is right at the back of the property, so would have to be very well advertised.
- Frankton School is on 2 main roads, so that has potential.
- Nawton is the traditional nappy valley - we could have hired rooms at their community centre last time.

Would any of those venues be good enough for you Mel?
How much would you personally be willing to spend on a stall?

So far we have interest from Mel, 0ebuny and Ethan's mum - haven't asked anyone personally yet. So yet again, is this worth persuing or not?

I'd be happy to come over & have a stall if the venue was going to be pretty central & well located etc...
I like the idea of the week after or before RNW as I am committed to going to the Auckland event so will happily work to anything around that.
Let me know if I can be of any help, bearing in mind that I live in Tauranga :)
Thanks Ladies.

Hi Ladies :smt039 :smt039

Sorry I have only just found this thread. Yes I would be interested in a stall at an expo (well located and advertised etc). And I would do my best to help organise said Expo and anything else I can help with.

There have been lots of great idea on this thread so far. Whatever we do needs to get the most bang for our buck, so to speak.

I am away from the 10th April - 27th April, so will be a bit useless over that period.

I would LOVE to come to a sew your own - that sounds like a great idea!! I could bring my mum and sister and prob get some other friends involved too! (maybe sounding a little too keen?!)

i think i'm a little too new to this whole thing to help out with stalls etc, but ill keep an eye out on what happens and help spread the word - what ever it might be. (maybe next year i could help out?)

Good luck :)

Good to see some enthusiasm and interested retailers :D

I can inquire about hall costs (I know - I said I was going to do that 2 weeks ago  ), but really, I need to know where retailers think would be a good expo venue.

IMO Frankton or Whitiora School Halls would be a good option as they're central, on arterial routes and close to shopping centres and plunket rooms. Hukanui school wouldn't be too bad for exposure either.

So we're looking Saturday May 9th, yes?

Either 2nd of May or the 9th is good for me. I think we need a hall/conference center. I even thought about an empty shop in one of the malls, but they might charge a fair bit for that and it probably wouldn't have tables and chairs etc.

We need as many retailers as possible, which will give the impression to potential new cloth users that Cloth nappies are no longer a small minority, IYKWIM.

I am very interested in The Base, it is by far my favourite shopping place in Hamilton, as there is heaps of parking and it has a much nicer feel to me then the center of town. If there was an empty shop out there we could use or something.

Venue:
Good Access - parking and foot traffic
Centrally located ?
Indoors
Not too big, not too small (got to have enough retailers to fill it).
Tables and chairs
Coffee making facilities.
Bathrooms
Very cheap or free - I think EW should come to the party on this.

Advertising
Bill boards/ Signs in prominent areas for a few weeks before the event.
Community noticeboard - radio
fliers -
Webpage - I wonder if TNN would be able to supply a webpage for RNW detailing events happening in each area etc.

Somehow we have got to get heaps pf people through the doors.
Megan

Finally made those calls...

Frankton School isn't available the 9th (but it is on the 2nd)
Hukanui School costs the most with no kitchen facilities (cross that off the list)
No answer at the Reformed Church
Whitiora School is a possibility but quite small apparently
Western Community Centre - all rooms are available, will be able to advertise there too - $200 bond plus equipment (including tables) is extra.

Looking at about $100 or so for hireage of the last 2.

I'm a real scaredy-cat when is comes to asking for things, so I thought I would see what I could find out from the EW website:
http://www.ew.govt.nz/About-EW/Funding- ... /#Heading1

Don't know if we would be eligible because of the "who can apply" bit - however if I (as a non-retailer) applied it might be ok because further down it says:
not be designed primarily for commercial or personal profit or to compensate individuals.

So it doesn't say that you can't make a profit, just that it shouldn't be it's primary function - which it isn't :D

Edited to add: I hope they'd be interested as they have much more focus on water projects than landfill - so they might not want to know about us :?

Oh, also EW are currently wanting people's input on their 10-year plan. Anyone here game to say something? I could, but I'm really not sure what to say. :?

 Just realised Megan - there's 2 weeks exactly between your DD1 and mine. That's 4 Waikato TNN girls (all first daughters) born within about 3 weeks.
